I had a busy schedule today and no time to try out my new resistance bands. The most I could do is go for my morning walk.
It was raining hard yesterday, so I didn’t go out because my tennis shoes are pretty slippery in the rain. I’m going to have to replace them soon.
I’m on a mission to get fit because I was sedentary for over 10 years with fibromyalgia. It amazes me to see people with fibro today who seem to be able to go about their daily business. I don’t understand that because I was in so much pain and on such heavy medication that it was a miracle I would get out of the house once a week.
And forget about exercising – going out for a slow walk put me back into the cycle of pain for the next several days or even a week.
My career also did not give me much time for exercise. I’m sure I could have gotten up extra early to do some fitness routine, but I was raising my son as a single parent, so I never even considered that.
I Hate to Exercise
The truth is… I hate to exercise. I enjoy outdoor activity, but at my age I don’t do much of that. Getting in my daily walk doesn’t leave much time for enjoying the outdoors because I am speed walking and concentrating on not falling. Seriously – I’ve already fallen twice by not picking up my feet and tripping over huge cracks in the sidewalk.
After losing a lot of muscle tone over the last 9 months, I need to get fit. So I’ve decided to try resistance bands instead of going to the gym or doing a lot of floor exercises. I think this will keep me motivated.
I will continue my morning walks as I get into using the resistance bands. This provides me with an aerobic workout and strengthening my muscles while adding flexibility.
Walking for Exercise
I walk for about 30 minutes and then I get bored. I’ve been doing this for about a year and a half, slowly building up my route. I didn’t start walking this far… I think I started with 15-20 minutes. At that time I wasn’t walking very fast, so I have slowly increased my pace to a very brisk speed walk.
To extend my steps, I go up and down each side of the street. I have tried walking out on the main streets, but the gas fumes were really terrible and made it hard to breath.
I’m not sure why I have trouble going further – even another block would help. I think it’s because I start thinking of all the things I have to do that day and can’t bear to take more time just walking.
Here’s what my morning looked like:
The leaves are turning color and starting to fall
Are those suede tennis shoes? Why, yes they are! I purchased these in 2002 and
didn’t use them all these years. I might as well wear them out before investing
in vegan walking shoes. And what’s with the white shoes laces on navy? Well, the
shoes have metal eyelets and the laces kept breaking. I’ve never had to purchase
so many laces before. I thought I had another set of black laces, but I didn’t – only
white! So I’m making a fashion statement, I guess.

What do you do to exercise and stay fit? Any suggestions for me?
P.S. Have you used resistance bands? If so, which brand did you use and how did they perform? Leave a comment and let’s chat!
