Today I’m going out with my singles group to a local restaurant for a meal and play cards. One of my recent favorite card games in Hand & Foot, which is a version of Canasta. We’re very competitive – some of the tables leave early before they have completed all hands and they don’t keep score. Not us; we play to the end and play to win with the highest score.
Already I’m thinking about what I’m going to eat. We’re going to IHOP, House of Pancakes. They have a large room we use every month. They have a few salads which is what I will probably order. Most things on their menu include dairy and a lot of processed food, which I avoid. The salad I’m considering is served with chicken, so I’ll replace that with sliced avocado.
IHOP must have changed their menu from the last time we were there. I was looking for their salad that had mostly kale in it, but it was no longer available.
I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad and replaced the chicken with sliced avocado. It was boring because all it had was the avocado and croutons, which I didn’t eat. The kale salad they used to have had a lot of vegetables, which I miss. I guess I could have saved money and just ordered a dinner salad.
I started out winning the first two hands which set everyone on edge because they went pretty fast and they didn’t have time to even get in their “foot.” It was touch and go after that as I started losing by not being able to get decent cards.
Oh well, we go for the game, but also to socialize. I am leaving in two days for six weeks to be with family over the Christmas holiday, so it was good to see friends.
